Missed the State of the Union address
but is sounds like I didn’t actually miss much, from what they are talking about on the news it sounds like they just recycled every other speech he has give. I will either read it or watch it online later today.
AP finds some discrepancies in the president’s numbers.
I was right about Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. All words no action.
Oh, Obama called on Congress to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell.” He did NOT call on Eric Holder, his attorney general, to stop filing scorched-earth amicus briefs opposing every aspect of equality for homosexuals. Also, he did not set a deadline for the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell.” It may just be that the campaign by a few gay and lesbian bloggers to get gays and lesbians to stop donating money to the Democrats until they get DADT and DOMA repealed is inflicting enough pain for Obama to test whether they will start donating again based on his recycling the promises he made in October to the Human Rights Campaign, shortly before Holder filed one of the above-mentioned briefs.
Justice Alito is the newest Washington racist. Mouthing the words “not true” (apparently silently from what I have read) but apparently even silent disagreement with Obama is unacceptable. The New York Times agrees with Alito – Truly these are the end of days :-P. Meanwhile Chris Matthews transcends race and realizes Martin Luther King’s dream – he forgot Obama was black for an hour. Amazing what arrogance and incompetence can accomplish.
John McCain was also caugh in a fit of racial hatred mouthing the words “Blame it on Bush” when Obama lied about the size of the deficit he inherited.
Howard Zinn died. It was probably the disappointment from seeing how the culmination of all his dreams, the Obama presidency, has turned out. (So in essence we can say that Obama killed him) –
One of Professor Zinn’s last public writings was a brief essay, published last week in The Nation, about the first year of the Obama administration.
“I’ve been searching hard for a highlight,” he wrote, adding that he wasn’t disappointed because he never expected a lot from President Obama.
“I think people are dazzled by Obama’s rhetoric, and that people ought to begin to understand that Obama is going to be a mediocre president — which means, in our time, a dangerous president — unless there is some national movement to push him in a better direction.”
I’m not sure he will join Teddy Kennedy in hell but if he doesn’t he should be made to spend eternity in a Catholic school purgatory with nuns slapping history into his head with yardsticks. I hate to think how much damage that book of his has done to America.
Rob of robvstate sent a link to a tag cloud of the State of the Union. Jobs figures prominently in the speech – too bad the actions this administration takes just continues to kill them. Missing from the cloud was the word I but apparently that is the way it is designed to work.
