Some good news this morning

June 7, 2010

Helen Thomas retired. It’s only 70 years too late, but better late than never. Maybe we can convince the State Department to institute her suggestion and ship he back to Lebanon or wherever she is from.

The Army arrested the person responsible for leaking the Collateral Murder video earlier this year. I hope he gets the death penalty and then burns in hell.

Imagine this, the recession hasn’t depleted the ranks of managers. How can that be? Well my observation has been that managers make the hiring / firing decisions and they protect each other. The result is all the actual productive people get fired and you end up with a bunch on useless MBAs and lawyers presiding over a dying company. Newsweek has a different theory.

    Re: Managers-

In many cases, middle management is the keeper of institutional or tribal knowledge. Think of it this way, when you downsize the navy, would you fire all the CPOs? Or lop off a bunch of whitehats?

When I say managers, I am not talking about someone at the CPO type level but people like HR directors, CFOs, COOs and so forth.

I think there’s also a good bit of self-interest involved. The mid and lower level managers don’t want to give the higher-ups any ideas about reducing management, so they make sure managers are always among the last to go, sometimes even being kept instead of critical non-managers (“you’re his manager, so you must know how to do his job – you can do it instead”).

There is some of that but usually the lower level managers are OK and know what and who they need to function, as I said in the reply above I am mainly talking about top tier management.

Yeah, wouldn’t want anybody(especially republicans) to be held responsible for criminal actions………

Give an example of where I have advocated letting Republicans get away with criminal actions please. If unable to do so then please STFU.
