Re: Avoiding a kick in the crotch

I find myself somewhere between the militia members and where I’m seeing you and James Joyner at OTB these days. I’m just saying that it’s bad form for a president not to release something as simple as a long-form when I needed one for little league baseball. Maybe it’s just because I’m younger, but I see the status-quo comfort-zone as being just as damaging as outright liberal policy games, because the slow movement towards the left within society as a whole isn’t going to affect your generation as much as it has mine. I have real difficulty finding anyone my age who isn’t glowing with love and admiration for Dear Leader. The school system I grew up in told me that Mitsubishi and GM had basically already destroyed the rain forests. They taught that guns were bad, and that every religion but Christianity has nothing but friendly and wonderful feelings for the entire world. My elementary school years were spent reading political mags and newspapers on the sly while well-meaning union slaves attempted to indoctrinate me into a more “progressive” way of thinking. I’m not being paranoid; I’m young enough that I distinctly remember what I was told. The profs I’ve dealt with at ASU, for the most part, use FOX, Christianity, and Republicans as fodder when making examples of bigotry, lack of deductive reasoning, or ignorance. My 70’s in America prof. taught four weeks on feminism, while devoting a whole two days to the effects of civil rights legislation. There was nothing about Nixon’s visiting China or ending war in Vietnam. There WAS plenty on Watergate.
I’m not saying that the President is a Muslim. I am saying that this internal firing squad mentality on the right isn’t going to do us any good. The left doesn’t harangue Bill Mahr or demand that Olbermann tone it down (with the exception of Jon Stewart.. that one time). There will be a time to clean house later, but given the general apathy of the electorate, whatever it takes to keep some interest in removing socialists from office is, in my mind, not as great a threat as the fact that my generation has basically been handed fiscal chains for the rest of our natural-born lives.
My response –
I agree it’s bad form but bad form is not the same as illegal or required. It is also bad form that his transcripts haven’t been released. My personal theory is that on his long form the hospital classified him as Caucasian based on the light skin tone and his mothers race and that his transcripts damage his reputation as a super genius.
I understand your concerns about the future but you actually have it much easier than my generation. We had LBJ and the Warren / Burger Supreme courts, followed by the bloodletting of Watergate and Jimmy Carter. We had a President who pronounced America dead for Christ sake.
Then we had Ronald Reagan. He turned things around for us but he didn’t do it by catering to the extremes. He did it by capturing the middle with vision. That is what is lacking now and the likes of Beck with their pronouncements on purity don’t offer vision, they offer division and dissension. Go back and look at Reagan’s actions and his speeches and you will see what I mean. He had vision but he was also pragmatic and knew that sometimes compromise was necessary.
I forgot to say regarding education, where do you think all that BS started. With my generation, well actually with my parents, they were the ones who bought into it and started trying to indoctrinate us.
Look I know that I have been critical of a lot of people, and it isn’t because I want to be engaged in an internecine firefight. It’s because I believe that we are being harmed by a lot of the nonsense that is being pushed out by people with their own agenda. When Andrew Napalitono goes on TV and refers to the Public Health Service as Obama’s private army does that honestly help or hurt the conservative cause? There is legitimate room for debate on whether the public health service should exist, and if it does what it’s mission should be, but cal;ling it Obama’s private army just makes us look ignorant because he is supposedly representing our views. The same applies every time Glenn Beck goes on the air and misrepresents a historical fact or when talk show host gives credence to a birther or a truther.
