Iran declares itself a “nuclear state”. Coming soon – Israel declares Iran a nuclear wasteland. France surrenders

February 11, 2010

Today is the day of Iran’s big announcement, that was guaranteed to rattle the western world, and Ahmadinejad made it this morning in Tehran

In a nationally televised address in the square, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad proclaimed that Iran has produced its first batch of uranium enriched to a higher level, saying his country will not be bullied by the West into curtailing its nuclear program a day after the U.S. imposed new sanctions.

“The first package of 20 percent fuel was produced and provided to the scientists,” he said, reiterating that Iran was now a “nuclear state.” He did not specify how much uranium had been enriched.

Not as dramatic as what I thought it would be. Back on the 1st I thought they would detonate a nuke that they purchased for North Korea. What can I say? I was wrong 😦

Besides being kind of undramatic – everyone in the world knew they were doing this so it isn’t a big shock, apparently Ahmadinejad isn’t telling the whole truth.

Iran is experiencing surprising setbacks in its efforts to enrich uranium, according to new assessments that suggest that equipment failures and other difficulties could undermine that nation’s plans for dramatically scaling up its nuclear program.

AP – Jobs bill won’t add many (any?) jobs

Even the Obama administration acknowledges the legislation’s centerpiece — a tax cut for businesses that hire unemployed workers — would work only on the margins.

As for the bill’s effectiveness, tax experts and business leaders said companies are unlikely to hire workers just to receive a tax break. Before businesses start hiring, they need increased demand for their products, more work for their employees and more revenue to pay those workers.

(…)

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office recently concluded that reducing Social Security taxes for companies that add workers would be among the most efficient ways for the government to create jobs. However, in showing how difficult it is to create jobs through tax policy, CBO estimates that such a tax break would generate only eight to 18 full-time jobs per $1 million in tax breaks.

The Senate proposal, which is more narrow than the one analyzed by CBO, is estimated to cost about $10 billion. That would add 80,000 to 180,000 jobs over the course of a year. The U.S. economy, meanwhile, has lost 8.4 million jobs since the start of the recession.

Joe Biden takes credit for success in Iraq. –

Joe Biden told Larry King last night: “I am very optimistic about — about Iraq. I mean, this could be one of the great achievements of this administration.”

He went on to credit the Obama administration with winning the American Revolution, writing the Constitution, and victory in WWII.
